WHEN it comes to making money, the Driver and Vehicle Licencing Agency could teach Premiership footballers a thing or two.

And just to prove that they’re up there with football’s hot shots, the DVLA has come up with a new wheeze to cash in on personalised number plates.

Its next number plate auction will be held at the home of Manchester United, Old Trafford, and among the gems up for grabs will be football-related private number plates including UTD 805S and FER 661E.

And if the chance of getting a personalised plate to honour your favourite team isn’t enough, the agency hopes that the opportunity to sit and have a picture taken with the FA cup will lure fans to the theatre of dreams.

In total 1,500 registrations will go under the hammer at the three-day event starting on Wednesday, March 24, and while reserve prices start from £250, the event’s “star” registration, 9 O, has a £10,000 reserve and will probably fetch much more, thereby further boosting the nation’s dwindling coffers.
